Start in Swellendam with her historic cape dutch style homes and peddle your way via the L’Algulhas Lighthouse through a few working farms and backroads in rural Overberg, en route to the Elgin Valley AKA the playground for adventure

Your journey begins
Day 1 – Cape Town to Swellendam (Transfer)












Dramatic mountain views at Hermitage Huisies
You will be greeted at the meeting point in Cape Town (CBD) in the morning and transferred in an air conditioned vehicle to Swellendam. Your support driver and bicycles will be waiting for you at your start point upon arrival. You have the afternoon to spend at your own leisure and will meet for dinner.
If you want to meet at/ be transferred from a different point in the Western Cape, then it can be arranged upon request.
Hermitage Huisies is nestled in the picturesque Hermitage Valley and situated just 2km’s outside of Swellendam at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, the area is well known for its spectacular views, tranquillity, abundant outdoor activities, and pretty berry farms.
All cottages are comfortably furnished with all the necessities and every one of them comes with an outside braai area. All adult beds are equipped with only the best pocket spring mattresses for your sleeping pleasure. Each Cottage is fitted with Unlimited Wi-Fi.
A brand new cold water Swimming Pool was installed recently and you can now enjoy the dramatic mountain views from the comfort of your Deckchair.

Day 2 – Cycle 51km’s from Swellendam to Potteberg Guest Farm












Potteberg Guest Farm - backpackers house
After a wholesome breakfast at Church Square in town, brace yourself for a bumpy road ahead as we depart Swellendam and cross the N2, before we turn off on the gravel road towards Malgas. We cover about 45 km’s on this road before we reach our destination for the night.
Tonight the whole group shares a rustic 3 bedroom farmhouse with a shared bathroom. This is basic accommodation and you should bring your own bedding and towels, which will, of course, be carried by the “old faithful” support vehicle. Dinner will be catered for you.

Day 3 – 88Km’s from Potteberg Guestfarm to Cape Agulhas










A whale of a time at the Cape Agulhas Guesthouse
We have a bumpy road ahead of us, as we travel along the border of De Hoop nature reserve via Ouplaas before we turn onto tar towards Bredasdorp. When we turn we have about 50km left before we reach the most southern tip of Africa. Once we pass through Bredasdorp, we are riding on a busy road with no shoulder, be cautious.
Cape Agulhas Guest House is located a short walk away from the beach and offers a choice of nine cozy double bedrooms each with its own ensuite bathroom. Breakfast is served in the 20-seater dining room each morning and there are plenty of communal living areas in the tastefully decorated home. Lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at one of the many restaurants that are a few minutes walk away from Cape Agulhas Guest House

Day 4 – Early start to tackle 60km’s from Cape Agulhas to Doornbosch










Doornbosch Game Reserve, Elim area
This morning after breakfast we head North to Struisbaai and after about 11km we turn off towards Elim and ride about 60 km on a mix of gravel and tar roads before we arrive at Doornbosch. The whole area of Doornbosch farm is over 5000 ha in size and consists mainly of pastures, forests, natural fynbos, proteas, and mountains. The pastures are used for grazing cattle, sheep, and horses. Ostriches, Zebra, Springbok, Eland, and other game freely roam the farm.
The 4-star self-catering accommodation offers absolute privacy and comfort with breathtaking views and an offering of five separate guest houses for 2 to 8 guests. Each unit offers a fully equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms with ensuite baths, a cozy living area with fireplace and dining area, a private terrace with an outdoor fireplace, braai facility, and sunbeds.
All guests have access to the outdoor pool and the veggie garden as well as kilometers of hiking and biking trails.

Day 5 – Approx 75Km’s from Doornbosch to Tesselaarsdal










Kleine Waterval Plaas - Rural bliss
This morning we take the gravel road to Napier and then head northwest on tar for about 11km before we turn off to Sandly Glen where the road will become gravel again. A little bit of tar and then be embraced by the beauty that surrounds you in Tesselaarsdal. The road will lead to the quant working farm where we will rest for the night.

Day 6 – 80km’s from Tesselaarsdal to Grabouw








Adventure at the Trails End Bike Hotel
Ready steady go, for your final stretch of about 8okm’s to the endpoint in the beautiful Elgin Valley. But first, we are lucky to explore the beauty of rural Overberg as we head for Hemel and Aarde Valley. We turn onto tar and you will note that this indeed is heaven on earth, about 20km of tar road before we turn onto the gravel at Karwyderskraal and then about 40km of tar and gravel and tar again, but be cautious because there is a national road crossing, but all of this is worth it…be in awe what you see around you….Welcome to Elgin Valley, the headquarters of adventure….
Trail’s End Bike Hotel, Mountain Bike and Trail Running Accommodation is situated in Grabouw and is not just Africa’s first bike hotel, but also the perfect base to relax, have fun and explore all the delights the Overberg has to offer.
